5.1.3. Check and adjustment of angles of installation of forward wheels

Check and adjustment of angles of installation of forward wheels is carried out at special stands according to the instruction on the stand.

PREVENTION
Check of angles of installation of wheels is obligatory if replacement or repair of details of a suspension bracket which can cause change of angles of installation of wheels is made.

At the new car (before the first maintenance) the angles of installation of wheels have the following values:
— disorder — 0 °30+40 ’–30’;
— a longitudinal tilt angle of an axis of turn — 4 °+1 ° -1 °30’;
— a convergence — 1 — 7 mm.
After carrying out the first maintenance (through 1500–2000 km of a run) and at further operation of the car value of angles of installation of wheels has to be:
— disorder — 0 °30 '±20’ (0 ° 5 '±20’) *;
— a longitudinal tilt angle of an axis of turn — 4 ° ±30’ (3 °30 '±30’) *;
— a convergence — 2 — 4 mm (3 — 5 mm) *.
The difference in longitudinal tilt angles of axes of turn of the right and left wheels should not exceed 0 °30’.
Before adjustment of angles of installation of wheels check:
— air pressure in tires;
— an axial gap in bearings of naves of forward wheels;
— serviceability of shock-absorbers (lack of jamming of a rod);
— radial and axial beating of tires;
— a gap in the top spherical hinges of a suspension bracket;
— free wheeling of a steering wheel.
Eliminate the found malfunctions and make necessary adjustments.
Control and adjustment of angles of installation of wheels can be carried out both on the loaded car, and on not loaded, however control of corners on the loaded car yields more exact results. Therefore in responsible cases it is recommended to carry out control and installation of corners on the car under static load of 3136 N (320 kgfs) that corresponds to about a weight of four people and freight in 40 kg in a luggage carrier.
The car is loaded or the special freights suspended to the body bottom or the ballast (280 kg) placed on pillows of seats and in a luggage carrier (40 kg). Front seats have to be on average the provision of their longitudinal course. Freight in a luggage carrier is placed evenly. The shortage of fuel is compensated by the freight located on the right side of the area of a luggage carrier.
After installation of the car on the stand, just before control of corners you "prozhmit" a car suspension bracket, putting 2–3 times the effort in 392–490 N (40–50 kgfs) directed from top to down, at first to a rear bumper, and then to forward. At the same time wheels of the car have to settle down parallel to a longitudinal axis of the car.
Sequence of check and adjustment of angles of installation of wheels following:
— corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn;
— disorder corner;
— convergence.

If when checking the size of a corner does not correspond to the data given above, change quantity of adjusting washers 27 (see fig. 5-1), established between an axis of the lower lever and a cross-piece (see tab. 5-1).
For adjustment of a corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn:
— weaken nuts of fastening of an axis of the lever to a cross-piece and change quantity of adjusting washers under bolts for receiving the correct corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn of wheels, being guided by table 5-1.
— tighten nuts a dynamometer key and check a longitudinal tilt angle of an axis of turn.

       NOTE
At adjustment of angles of installation of forward wheels application of P-shaped adjusting laying which has to be established by a cut down is allowed.

Corner of disorder of forward wheels
If the corner of disorder differs from norm, adjust it, having changed quantity of adjusting washers 27 (see fig. 5-1), established between an axis of the lever and a cross-piece, being guided by table 5-1.

For increase in a corner of disorder remove identical quantity of washers from both bolts, and for reduction — add.

Convergence of forward wheels
If the size of a convergence differs from norm, weaken coupling buckles of side drafts and a key 67.7813.9504 turn both couplings at an identical size in opposite directions; thus couplings navertyvatsya or turn away and change length of side drafts.
Having executed adjustment, install coupling buckles by a cut horizontally with a deviation up or down no more than 60 ° and in such situation tighten them. At the tightened nuts of an edge of cuts of coupling buckles should not adjoin.
